The consultation period for the Proposed North West Renewable Energy Zone (REZ) is now closed.

Thank you everyone for submitting your important places through the Mapping Important Places tool for the Proposed North West REZ. This information will be used as part of our broader spatial mapping process which aims to identify and declare the State's first REZ. Further updates on the North West REZ will be published on our website in the coming weeks.

Key points:

  • We sought feedback on the suitability of the Proposed North West REZ.
  • Our first Mapping Important Places initiative helped us identify many culturally and environmentally important places throughout the north west. Your input directly fed into the process that identified the candidate area.
  • We used a second Mapping Important Places process (see below) to ensure we had not missed any places important to you.
  • By using the mapping tool below, participants could pinpoint areas of importance on the interactive map below. They were also asked to take part in a survey.
  • If the REZ is declared, there will be further opportunities for feedback when proponents begin studying the area and commence formal approvals processes for renewable energy infrastructure.
  • REZ in Tasmania will be co-designed with the public and will coexist sustainably with existing environment and culture, while benefitting communities.
