North West Renewable Energy Zone (REZ)

Renewables, Climate and Future Industries Tasmania (ReCFIT) as the REZ Coordinator has spent the last year in the north west, talking to community members and exploring its potential to host the state's first REZ.

We believe that REZs have the potential to deliver a range of beneficial outcomes for Tasmanian communities. To make sure this happens, we’re bringing community along with us to define what REZ means in the north west.

What have we been doing so far?

Throughout 2023, we wanted to learn about what is important to north west communities and how renewable energy projects could benefit the region. We wanted to provide the space for community voices to share local perspectives.

North West REZ Public Consultation

Public consultation on the Proposed North West REZ was held from the 20 May 2024 to the 30 September 2024. We received feedback from the community via landowner drop-in sessions, the Mapping Important Places online tool, and via submissions to libraries in the north west and our REZ email inbox. We also received submissions on future potential Community Benefit Sharing (CBS) schemes through our online CBS survey and through letters and emails sent to our REZ email inbox.

Feedback will be summarised and published in a report in the next few weeks. Further updates on the progress of the Proposed North West REZ will also be provided.
