Engagement highlights

Circular Head Science Big Gig 2023

The theme for Science Week 2023 was Innovation: Powering Future Industries. The REZ team attended this year’s event in Circular Head, which provided a great opportunity to engage with local community members, students and families.

Being on the ground and having meaningful conversations about the future of renewable energy in the north west, allowed us to form new connections and provide a deeper understanding of regional values.

We’d like to thank the organisers, particularly the Circular Head Youth Leaders for inviting us along to the Big Gig. We’d also like to thank all those who contributed to our participatory mapping exercise, and for sharing insights about what’s important when building a better future for the north west, around renewable energy development.

Circular Head Aboriginal Corporation - NAIDOC day celebration

Thank you to Circular Head Aboriginal Corporation for inviting us to participate in their NAIDOC week celebrations. We had a fabulous day on country at Trawmanna, it was great to meet so many people, learn more about your aboriginal culture and what makes the region so important to community.

AGFEST

In May, we had a great couple of days at AGFEST, the state's largest rural event. We had the opportunity to meet lots of community members from across the state and raise awareness about REZ and how to be involved. This provided valuable insights into the perspectives and priorities of rural communities regarding future renewable energy development. We appreciate everyone who spoke with us and shared their thoughts, as well as those who participated in the survey and colouring-in competition. Special thanks to Rural Youth Tasmania for organising this remarkable event, enabling us to connect with a diverse range of community members.

Melythina Tiakana Warrana Aboriginal Corporation - A day on Country

Back in March, some of the REZ team members had the incredible opportunity to spend two days with Aunty Patsy and Jo from Melythina Tiakana Warrana Aboriginal Corporation (MTWA Corp). The group was immersed in learning about the history and culture of Tasmanian Aboriginal people while standing on Tebrakunna Country, a place of great significance.

This experience sparked meaningful conversations about our responsibilities in working alongside Aboriginal Tasmanians to create a reconciled future. In recognition of the rich diversity of Tasmania's Aboriginal cultures and communities, we intend to undergo further cultural training with other Tasmanian Aboriginal groups. We are grateful to MTWA Corp, particularly Jo and Aunty Patsy, for generously sharing their time and knowledge with us.
